Legal Question in Family Law in California
Hello. My cousin (Michelle) was arrested and sentenced to prison for possesion for sale of a controlled substance. She has two children (girls) one 6 and one 2. CPS is involved with the well-being of the children and they are currently placed with Michelle's husband's brother (Jeffrey) because he immediately had a place for them to live with a bedroom set up for them. Jeffrey is motivated by his father who adores his granchild (Bellla) who is the youngest. The older girl (Adrianne) is not blood related to Jeffrey and has been living alone with Jeffrey as Bella has been with grandpa. I went to court after locating Adriannes father and had a chance to speak briefly with the attorney assigned to Michelle. Michelle was not in court and I said to him that Michelle has been writing to the girls at least 2 times a week and calling every Saturday. I told him they were looking forward to seeing her when she got out. He said "oh, I'll talk to her about that".They are about to take her parental rights away and put the girls up for adoption. It just seemed to me that he did not have her best interest and I would like to see her get a fair chance. I would even be able to make monthly payments to an attorney for her if I could find one who would agree to that. The girls love her and she loves them and I'm sure that is the best place for them upon her release. Also, the father of the youngest gave up his rights the first time in court.
Thank you

Does your sister have anyone who can take both girls so that they live in the same home? Preferably someone interested in helping mom reunify?
