Legal Question in Family Law in California

CSS/Attorney

My ex has hired an attorney and is taking me to court for visitation and reduction in child support. If I retain an attorney, is it true that CSS will no longer be able to talk to me? If so, what about after the hearing? Will CSS be able to talk to me then?

Re: CSS/Attorney

CSS should be able to talk to you. It's their attorney that can't talk to you if you are represented by counsel.

Re: CSS/Attorney

You have a right to hire an attorney. CSS will monitor the case. If you are or have received any welfare assistance, then CSS will have to approve any child support settlement. CSS will not be involved in the child custody aspects of the case. If you have not received any welfare benefits, then you may notify CSS you are terminating their services so that it does not have to approve any settlment.
