Custody change and lawyer fees
I have joint custody of my son and I am the primary caretaker and have been so for the past 3 years. My ex wife wants to take me back to court for custody. I am not sure why. She gets him every other weeked and one overnight during the week. I do not ask for child support from her. Truth is I cannot afford to pay for a lawyer right now. Is there anyway that she can pay my fees since she insists on taking me back to court? Do you think she will gain custody of him? I cant think of any reason why they would appoint her as custodial parent. He has his own bedroom here with me and he is happy with the visitation situation. His mom lives with her boyfriend and 4 other kids. He would be very crammed living at her 3 bedroom home. I dont want to lose him just dont know how I am going to pay for it. Last time it cost me about $7000. Thanks for your help.

Request child support. If there is a substantial change in circumstances since the last time you were in court, the court would have the authority to change custody if it's in your child's best interest. You're better off hiring an attorney. If you don't you might be ordered to help pay for your ex's attorney. Doesn't seem fair, but that's how's it's played.
