Reply: custody
In a general sense, legal custody is the relationship that exists between parent and child. Physical custody describes where the child lives.

Re: custody
Legal Custody gives on parent the right to make all decisions concerning medical treatment, schooling, religion. Basically legal custody especially if it is sole legal custody gives the right to that parent to act as the parent for the child.
Physical custody is exactly what it implies, it gives a parent the right to keep physical custody of the child. The Courts now a days usually give joint legal and physical with one parent having primary physical custody.
