Custody Hearing

what are the benefits in hiring an attorney to represent my 7year old son vs hiring one to represent me. I live in California

You need the attorney not your son. He would need an attorney only if the conflict between the parents is so great that the best interests of the child are being ignored. An attorney can assist you in preparing for the custody process and help avoid the court appointing an attorney to represent the child. A court appointed attorney for the child just inserts another person that must be dealt with in the process.
