Legal Question in Family Law in California

custody and legal rights to child's business and income

I'm going through a custody battle. At this point I have 50% legal custody and that is all that has been decided. My child is in CA working and has her own income. The mother spends the money on herself and has 'control' of it. She wants me to agree to have no say, input/control of their careers...does legal custody give me rights to this?

Joint Legal custody generally means that both parents make legal decisions regarding the minor child working together. If there is a dispute, I recommend that you propose a specific order to the Court that states in detail how joint legal custody is to be defined in your case, and how the minor's income is to be handled.

California Family Code Section 7500 tells us that both parents generally have equal entitlement to the services and earnings of the minor child, EXCEPT this section does not apply to contracts described in Family Code Section 6750.

California Family Code Section 6750 defines certain entertainment and sports contracts. The parent or guardian must submit a certified copy of the child's birth certificate and a certified copy of the court document appointing the person as the minor's legal guardian to the contracting employer. That section further states in part: in the order approving the minor's contract, the court SHALL require that 15% of the gross income [defined term] shall be set aside in trust for the child.

Google these terms and sections and read them in their entirety.
