Getting custody of a minor.

Can I get legal custody of my nephew who has live with me since birth, without going to court. My nephew mom is willing to sign whatever papers necessary I just need to get custody to regeister in school and take care of his medical needs.

You will need to go to court but if the parents are not objecting it should be fairly simple and not expensive.
