Can a 17-year old kid, father of a 6 month old baby file for custody (legal and physical) of his baby, or does he need to wait until he turns 18-years old?

Re: Custody For A Minor

A 17 year old can file for custody of his child. However, you should consider what is in the best interests of the child. Few, if any, 17 year olds are prepared to be a parent, especially a single parent. I recommend you investigate adopting the child to a stable 2- parent home where the child can get the care and nuturing the child deserves. If the mother is against adoption - then the 17 year old should become involved in the life of the child. A boy-father is better than no father at all.
