custody rights for the father of a child

I would like to know what kind of rights are avaliable for the father of a child in a custody battle? The couple wwas never previously married, the children live full-time with the mother, and currently is denying any visitation of the children to the father. There is no previous court order of temporary custody or vistitation statutes in place.

After paternity has been esttablished he would have the same rights as any other father. A paternity order from the court will extablish his paternal rights. By fileing a paternity petition he will get a court order that he is the father, that he has to pay child support, and that he has some cousotidal and visitation rights.

Father should act quickly as a factor condisered in determining visitation is the amount of contact he has had with the children in the past.
