Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have custody of my son and his father has visitations every other weekedend. He recently moved out of the county and now he wants me to meet him half way when my son comes home. Am I required to do so by law or is he required to drop him off?

There is no specific law on the subject. If you were to go to court over it, the judge would weigh the burdens and allocate responsibility for transportation for visitations. Generally the rule of thumb is you start with each parent bearing half the burden, and adjust for circumstances such as unequal incomes, transportation options, etc.

You need to review your custody order to determine who would bear the responsibility of transportation. His move does not change the order. If the answer is not clear from the current custody order one of you will need to file a motion to ask the judge to make a decision. Good Luck. Pat McCrary
