custody of an unborn child

I've been living with a man for one year. We are not married. I am pregnant. He's abusive. I want out. What are the chances I'll have to let him be in my child's life?

Re: custody of an unborn child

He will probably have some contact with the child. However, he would have to obtain a judgment that he is the father before he could enforce visitation rights. He would also be subject to paying child support.

Because of the abuse you should protect yourself and your child by obtaining a domestic violence restraining order. You would need show a dating realtion ship to qualify for the domestic violence restraining order. You would also have to describe the type of abuse and the time of several of the most recent occurrances. Failing to protect your child from abuse could result in the child being taken from you.
