Legal Question in Family Law in California

Custody

I am unmarried and pregnant. I am no longer dating the father of the child. The father has demonstrated mental instability including suicidal threats and has also demonstrated typical stalking behavior. I have not obtained a restraining order at this time. I am thinking of doing so. If I were to get a restraining order, how will this effect his visitation rights once the child is born? If he is mentally unstable but pays child support, what visitation/ custody rights does he have? If he pays child support does he automatically obtain joint custody though I have physical custody of the infant? I appreciate your time and any response. Thank you.

Re: Custody

Custody, and visitation are separate from the support issue. A Domestic Violence restraining order can negatively affect his ability to have visitation. If he is violent and mentally unstable you should avoid him being with the child unsupervised.
