Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have had custody of my 7 year old daughter for 5 years. It was a verbal agreement with my ex-girlfriend as she was on drugs and in/out of jail. My daughters mother lives 45 minutes away and does have weekend visits (as verbal agreement) This past Sunday, she told me she was going to court on Tuesday, and I could not pick up my daughter and I needed to be in court (although I was never served papers) What do I need to do as I want my daughter back and I do not know where to start!

Immediately file and serve your paternity petition along with a request for an emergency order to keep the child in your custodial care pending further determination on a parenting plan. I urge you to meet with an experienced family law attorney to assist you on exploring your legal options and on protecting you and your child's rights.
