Legal Question in Family Law in California

My dad has been gone for a long time now, we believe he commited suicide 13 years ago. my family hired a private investigator and have found that his social has stopped and with where we think he did on the bridge there was no body found. I am currently twenty years old and wanted to get the money from him for all these years. I know after seven years you can declare someone is dead, how would i go about getting the money for it? Or is it even worth trying to go for? Thank you

The first thing that I suggest is that you run his social security through the Social Security Death Index. That should give you a date of death, and hopefully a county. If you have the county, his name, and the date of death, you should be able to get a death certificate. I'm not sure what you refer to about getting money.
