$400 per month does seem low. Child support is calculated based upon a formula. She should contact a family law attorney to calculate the support that she should be receving. She then needs to file an action to establish child and spousal support. She may call me for a free consultation. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
She needs to file a paternity action to establish visitation and support orders since the child was born outside of the marriage. You can go to www.childsup.ca.gov to figure out what he should be paying in child support. If you are only looking for support, you can contact your local child support services and they can assist you in collecting support. Good Luck
