Legal Question in Family Law in California
My daughter received a lump sum of money from me, her dad, going out on permanent disability. The check came in her mothers name because she had 3 months until she turned 18. Before she received the money we all planned on putting it towards dental assistant school. My daughter is 19 and has completed her classes and now her mother is not paying off her loan. This is 15,000 dollars my daughter planned to use for student loans. Is my EX-GIRLFRIEND entitled to this money or can my daughter do anything about it?

Yes sue mom for breach of contract, quasi contract, fraud, misrepresentation and there are probably others. This is a civil question, not family law. She does have a remedy though. In California, she would have to sue in Superior Court since it exceeds the 7500 small claims limit.
