death of boyfriend

my boyfriend of 20 year is dieing of cancer.we live in california will i have any rights once he dies to personal property,bank accounts,or inheritence that he had not yet recieved from his mothers estate.does every thing automaticly go to his family

You have no rights. You are legally a stranger to him. You should consider marrying, and he should prepare a will to protect you. What happens to the prospective inheritance from his family would depend upon the terms of the wills etc of those family members.
