Legal Question in Family Law in California

Desperate

My husband has been unemployed for 9 months of the past year and a half. He is an alcoholic that went through a 1 month rehab program. I was looking into refinancing the house in order not to loose it. Because my husband was unemployed and has allowed his credit to drop the lender wanted to remove his name from the title to refinance. He wouldn't do it. He took a personal loan from his mother to catch up and pay his portion of all household bills after being unemployed for 7 months.I wasn't aware he took this loan from his mother until recently. He and his mother didnt want me to know about the personal loan that they agreeed would be repayed at 6% interest once the house sells. I am and have been employed and paying my portion of the household bills. I have excellent records to support this. We purchased our home a year and a half ago. We are filing for divorce and putting the house up for sale. He is now telling me I am to pay half of his personal loan to his mother upon the close of escrow. This means I will be paying 150% of the household bills. This just doesn't make sence to me. Am I legally responsible for a personal loan issued to my husband from his mother?

Re: Desperate

Had your husband not borrowed the money you would have been required to pay these debts. Spouses are required by law to support each other. You should request that he be solely responsible for this debt as it is not in written and therefore cannot be verified.
