Distribution of Child Support Check

my ex has been paying child support the first of the month-I call him and make arrangements for when and where to pick up the check. Now he says he has 30 days before it's considered late. He wants to put it in the mail around the first and has asked me not to contact him about where it is until after 30 days. What are my options for getting something a little more predictable? We went through private mediation for our divorce.

A wage assignment will make the receipt of the child support in a more reliable manner.
