Legal Question in Family Law in California

Division of Assests and Liabilities settlement

My divorce became final in 1990. The Judgement of Dissolution stipulated as a result of the assets and liabilities distributed that my ex husband owes to me the sum of $6k to equalize the division. However, there was no mention as to when or how I was to recieve the money. Now 15 years later I have not received a dime from my exhusband. Do I still have a chance of collecting and What steps should I take to enforce the divorce settlement agreement? The court ordered to reserve jurisdiction to make order necessary and appropriate with respect to the property distribution and its division.

Re: Division of Assests and Liabilities settlement

Generally a judgment is valid for 10 years, unless it is timely renewed. The judgement is now 15 years old and therefore you chances of collecting would seem slim. However, contacting him and demanding payment may be beneficial. Especially if you agree to reduce the interest. Interest is 10% or $600 per yer for 15 years is $9,000. Such an offer may convince that he is getting a good and he will readily accept it.
