Legal Question in Family Law in California
division of property
I bought two properties while my husband and I were seperated. He went to prison for two years. When he paroled he went to stay with his father and a few other places. Since then we have tried to reconcile our difference but have failed to do so. I want to end the marriage, but he doesn't only because he doesn't have a job nor any money. He is in the process of either going to jail or a rehabilitation center. we have a divorce in progress but I'm afraid to proceed because i bought the property and don't want to give him anything because he has not held a job to help support me and our four children. He is healthy and able but also lazy. he hangs over my head that i would have to give half of what i own. he have not spent any money nor do he help with the maintenance of the buildings. I tried to hire him to do some repair work and I gave him an advancement and he ran off with the money.I had to find someone else to do the work. Please advise me on what to do.

In a general sense, it is hard to tell whether the properties you puchased during the separation are community property or separate property, as you have not provided sufficient information. Your documents will have to be reviewed in detail.
