Legal Question in Family Law in California

My divorce agreement stipulates that child support continues until 18, graduation from high school up to 19 yrs or emancipation. My minor child (17 yrs) ran away from home and has been in contact with her Mom but refuses to contact me or live with either of us since April of this year. I'd like to discontinue child support payments to her Mom and offer those payments directly to my child. Is that possible and legal? She will be 18 next June.

I would take this matter before the court and let the judge decide who you are going to pay what. I would not just stop making payments.

Your divorce agreement just recites the law. The key word is emancipation. She would have to be legally emancipated for you to pay her directly.
