Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce where assets are located in another country

During marriage, wife (an American citizen)contributed more than $80,000 to developing husband's business in a foreign country (Croatia). Husband, who is Croatian, contributed much less. Business never made a profit, and husband stopped working in the U.S., leaving wife to support him. Wife is contemplating divorce, but wants to know what are her chances of obtaining half the business (consisting of tourist apartments) when it is located in Croatia?

Re: Divorce where assets are located in another country

A California court could order your husband to convey some portion or all of the property to you. Was your $80,000 your separate property? I am not familar with how they transfer real property in Crotia, but I would imagine it is somewhat similar to our system here. So once he complies with the court order to execute the necessary paperwork, you should be ok.
