Legal Question in Family Law in California
I went through a divorce and did not have an attorney. My ex husband told the judge that he had his expenses and I had mine. Everything from our 20 years together was in my name because my ex husband father was a criminal and had used my ex husbands social security number fraudulently for several years. All of this is documented legally. However now that our marriage is over I am stuck with thousands of dollors of money owed. Some of the accounts were both of ours that we used during our marriage. Some are accounts that he only had a card on and i never used at all. Can i hire a lawyer and take him to court to make him responsible for 1/2 of the expenses occured during our marriage? There is nothing about our finances in our divorce order.

Any community debt can be equally divided by the judge. If there is debt that is falsely attributed to you through your husbands dealings, consider asking the court for husband to be responsible for his fathers share.
