Legal Question in Family Law in California
Divorce Attorney will not return my phone calls
I hired an attorney to represent me in my divorce. He has repeatidly gone against my wished on how to handle my case - I got a temporary restraining order issued, he told me that I did not have to attend the hearing that he was filing a stipulation. I went to file a police report for violation of the order to find out that the stipulation was never filed. I called the attorney he swares that I have a restraining order. That was 4 weeks ago, he has not returned any calls or responded to my written request for information. I have asked for him to get us a hearing instead he keeps setting appointments with my husband and his attorney - these do not work! I have given him $2500 and do not have the money to retain another attorney - there are numerous other issuses that I feel are urgent - no response...child support, real estate, deliquent taxes... what do I do? Is is fair at this point to file a complaint with the State Bar? Will they do anything? How about the District Attorney? Is an Attorney obligated to represent a client based on their wished?

You can complain to the state bar but they are unlikely to do anything. This lawyer is screwing you, I have seen this pattern before. You need to get another attorney and sue the old attorney to get your money back.
