Legal Question in Family Law in California

From divorce attorneys to no attorneys.

My husband and I were in a long child custody battle. I asked for and received full custody due to drugs/violence on his part. It's been 4 years and we've decided to not use lawyers because of the expense. How do we get of our attorneys? and if I get rid of mine, how can I be sure he will get rid of his and not take me back to court with his attorney and I end up representing myself? For the safety of my child, I can't risk losing any custody. Thank you!

Parties can choose to go pro per at any time, so both parties can represent themselves in court. However, if he wants to hire an attorney he may do so at any time.

As always please contact a local attorney in your area before taking legal action.

Good luck!

Just contact your attorney and tell him or her that you'd like to sub in as your own attorney. There is no way of ensuring that you're husband does the same.

Sounds like your ex is trying to hoodwink you into dumping a good attorney. Why would you ever consider entering into this type of agreement with him? Not smart, and you know it. If you think your kids are in any danger, keep your attorney.
