Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce Name Back to Birth Name (First Name Only)

When I married I changed the spellling of my first name as well as my last name. I am now divorced and want to keep my divorced last name - but want to change the first name back to my original birth name.

How would I go about doing this?

Re: Divorce Name Back to Birth Name (First Name Only)

you can go down to your local superior courthouse and request a name change package from them. once you fill out the legal paperwork, run your new name in a publication, and appear for your hearing, your new name should then take effect. if you would like further assistance in this process, feel free to email me today.

You changed the spelling of your first name without a formal court order. Under California law you can change your name without a court order.
