Legal Question in Family Law in California
After a divorce, can a ex come back to charge me her attorney fees so we can recalculate child support? I elect to not use an attorney because it's expensive. She now says I must pay for half her fees since I elect not to have an attorney? No Alimony has been ever filed. Been divorced for over 2 years now. I have the kids 35% of the time and she has 65%. I pay child support and she is now unemployed collecting unemployment. Can she stick me with part of her legal fees that she chooses to use for the simplest things?

Attorney fee awards are based on a number of factors. The primary consideration is ensuring that both parties have access to legal representation. If your income is greater than hers, the court may determine that this element justifies your contribution of fees.
