Divorce in CA for marriage in India

hello, I was married in India and not in the US in year 2000. However, I have been living in CA for several years. My wife and 2 year old kid are in India for the last almost two years. I have been trying to get in touch with them but they refuse to talk or take any action. Can I file for divorce in the US? Will papers be served to my wife in India? If they decide to contest it how will it work? What will be in my best interest?
