Divorce and child custody

My husband has just filled for divorce and child custody i dont know what i should do i cant just sit back and do nothing. Everything we own is in his name. I do not have any close family or friends that can help me in this matter (he does) i need advice and fast. Is it true that the person to file frist things go in thier favor?

There may be substantial community property assets even though nothing is in your name!

It doesn't matter who filed first - there is generally no advantage.

It also probably doesn't matter whose name the property is in, it is probably all community property if it was purchased during the marriage.

I strongly recommend that you retain an attorney to assist you.

It generally makes little difference which party files first. You should immediately locate an attorney that will take your case without an up front cash payment. You can get a court order for your husband to pay your attorney fees.
