Legal Question in Family Law in California

divorce

I filed for a divorce in August of 2001, I went to court in October and to date the attorney that I have, has not done anything on my case. Everytime I call he tells me he's working on the case but when I call him back he gives me the same story he had the time before. I want the divorce finalized and he is giving me the run around. What can I do to move this process, on my own, without firing him (I don't have a lot of money for a new attorney)? I've asked for signed court orders regarding child support and spousal support and general information on when this will be finalized and he will not give me any legitimate answers. Please help.

Re: divorce

What was the event you went to court for in Oct?

What was the "same" explanation?

I am going to guess that he provided more information in that than you have in your query? I await your response.

Re: divorce

You need to encourage your attorney, in the strogest terms, to finish the job he started for you. If the telephone does not work, go to his office and insist on a full explanation of what is happening in your case and do not leave until you are satisfied that you understand everything. I also suggest you contact the state bar to explore further options.

Good luck-Martin
