Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce filing

My husband served me with divorce papers 4 months ago and left town. I filed my response but he did not pick up the certified mail I sent. He will not respond to phone calls or emails. How do I go about getting a date set and get this settled? He is not making the payments on the car he took and, after changing the locks on our apartment, he abandoned it leaving rent owed. This is affecting my credit and I need to get it resolved. The divorce papers also said no changes to insurance and he quit his job causing medical insurance to be cancelled and let the car insurance lapse.

Re: Divorce filing

If you need temporary orders you can file an Order to Show Cause, if you're ready to complete the divorce proceeding, then you file an at issue memorandum. It would be best to consult with an attorney in your area before going forward. Most will offer a one hour consultation for a nominal charge.
