Legal Question in Family Law in California
Divorce
`how can i find out if my husband got a divorce? He said he got a divorce when he was in prison,in riverside california and he filed the papers in prison but then he never got any response as to the status of the marriage. And he refuses to call the court to find out. How can i as his current wife find out this info? Which county do i look in for the info. Riverside? Or orange county where i live? Diana

Re: Divorce
You would look in the county in which he filed the divorce, which sounds like Riverside County. If he never got a "response as to the status", then is sounds like he is never got a divorce. The divorce action requires much more than a "response" from the court. If I were a betting man, I would bet that your husband is still married to his first wife and your marriage is not valid. I would suggest that you get some assistance in dissolving the first marriage so that you can "re-marry" your "husband". Good Luck, Pat McCrary
Re: Divorce
Check the Riverside County records, if that is where he said he filed it (did the previous wife also live there?). The divorce requires more than just filing, so even if it was filed, you may find it was completed.
