Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce

I have seen or heard from my husband in almost 9 years. How do I find out if by chance he has divorced me without my knowledge?

Re: Divorce

This is a difficult issue. Often, people obtain divorces by filing, and then "serving" the papers through unethical process servers who

fill out a proof of service but never actually serve the papers ("sewer service"). Also, if your husband claims not to know your whereabouts, he

could have served you by publication. In some foreign countries, no particular proof of notice may be required.

You can start by looking at the court records in the counties where you think your husband may have lived.

You can also make sure you are single, if that is what you want, by filing your own action for dissolution of marriage.

Not many of this type of court record is on the internet. However, it may be possible to find your husband through the internet, or

through a detective.
