on Calif. divorce papers, there is a listing for insanity. My question is [does manic depressive & bipolar disorder qualify?]

Probably not, unless the condition is so bad that the person cannot be medicated and treated. Most individuals go with the irreconciable circumstances. This is much easier to prove and is less likely to be contested by the other party.
