Legal Question in Family Law in California
Divorce Modification for Alimony
Five years after a divorce of 17 years in which I walked away with nothing except some bills, can I now ask/receive alimony? I live in CA, took a disability retirement from Civil Service and work part-time in retail. He makes good money. I did not sign anything saying I knew I was entitled to alimony and chose to forfeit it.
Thank you very much for your time and reply.

You need to have someone look over your divorce papers.
Re: Divorce Modification for Alimony
Let's assume that spousal support was not waived.
Can you ask? Sure!
Will you get it? Not sure. Not enough information. I would hazard to say: yes; assuming the equities are favorable. Why not asked for in the first place? What efforts by you since divorce? Health then and now. Kids?
What was the marital standard of living?
All this assumes of course that you have never remarried. This will take an atty to adequately prosecute.
Good luck.
