I moved into my wifes house 3 years ago. We are divorcing. I invested $35k into her homes remodel and we decided to divorce before the construction finished. Am I entitled to recover the money I spent (I have the cancelled checks), or entitled to that portion of her equity

The answer to your question would depend upon the source of th $35,000 that was invested in the house. If the $35,000 came from your wages during the marriage it is community property. There could be a community property interest in the home. Consulting with an attorney would be a good investment of time and money.
