divorce. if one party was served with divorce papers but they decided to work things out or reconcile what procedures would need to take place.

By "work things out" or reconcile, I assume you mean cancel the divorce. If that is correct, all that needs to be done is the spouse that filed the dissolution petition files a standard form Request for Dismissal, available at courtinfo.ca.gov. If the responding spouse had filed responding papers, they will also need to sign the form.
