Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce Petition served/ 1282 response

my son was served with a petition for divorce.

His wife is pro per and so is my son. The 1282

response has a filing fee of $185 in Calif.

The question is without the response to the pertition, will my son have any say in the assets and obligations part of it. In other words, does the 1282 response give him any advantage other than contesting the divorce issue.

If he does not answer he will not have a say in anything. His life as he knows it will be over. He could lose every dime he has or ever will have and if there are kids he might never see them again. The choice is his. If he cant afford the $185 he can ask the court to waive it.
