I am in the divorce process and child custody is an issue. How old does a child need to be in California to have their wishes considered?

California custody law is designed to protect the child's best interests. The older the child is, the more the court might consider the child's wishes. A new law allows a child 14 years or older to state their preferences to the court. The judge has the ultimate say if this request will be granted.
