divorce with property

I have been seperated from my wife and have custody of our son. I would like to start the divorce proceedings, but we also have a home together. How should we go about with the divorce and how do we split our property. Would I have to refinance to buy her out? Where do I start? Do I first get my home appraised?

appraising the home is a good start. you can try to buy out her interest by refinancing the house.
