Legal Question in Family Law in California

divorce and release of liability

when i filed for divorce- I deemed one vehicle that was soley in my name as my property- and the other vehicle that was in both my and my spouses name as his property- he was in possession of the title, which I signed over- I also sent in on 2 different occcasions a release of liability form, but this was about a month or so later, because he was supposed to take care of it. I just got a letter from DMV telling me there are 1000 in tickets from the time he had the car and it was no longer in my possession. Is a divorce filing document that is with the court proof enough of release of liability? please advise

Re: divorce and release of liability

No. You should obtain the dmv notice of transfer and file it with the dmv. You should file a motion with the court and request an order that he pay for the tickets. Determine the costs of these tickets and subtract this from his share of the community property assets. Do not agree that the parking tickets are assigned to him for payment. Insist that they be paid.
