Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce and Retirement monies

I was divorced in 1990 and was married in 1980. Unfortunately I used the same divorce lawyer as my husband and was given bad advice. Can you tell me the following. My husband had a pension fund with HP that at the time (I found out later) was worth nearly $1m and I had nothing as all of our spare money went into his pension fund. I understand that since we where married for 10 years legally that I am entitled to a portion of his HP pension and his SSI? Is that true? We where married in November 1980 and the divorce was finalized in July 1990. However we did live together for a year before with all monies of mine going into his pension and we bought a house together.

Re: Divorce and Retirement monies

The length of time between the divorce and now is so long that it may be very difficult to get relief. get a copy of the divorce paper work and consult with an attorney. Only a review of the court documents will enable an attorney to give you some advice.
