Legal Question in Family Law in California
In a "do it yourself" divorce that is uncontested, we have a family business and have agreed to a settlement . Will the courts require a professional appraisal of the business if we have a written agreement?

Generally, you should have a forensic accountant determine the value of the family business. However, if you and your ex-spouse have agreed to what you believe to be a fair valuation, then you can enter into a Stipulated Judgment and file with the Judgment for Dissolution. The Court may ask some questions to ensure that you both understand what you stipulated to before signing and entering the Judgment.
