Legal Question in Family Law in California
I have been going through a divorce for nearly four years now. The main problem being I live in Arkansas and my ex, whom filed for divorce, lives in California. I have been a stay at home mother from the beginning of the marriage. I was a licensed cosmetolegist but gave up my license when my ex guarenteed me I no longer needed it since he was the bread winner. He stranded our five children and myself in AR with the promise of moving here once he sold our house and his business. I really want this mess over and done with but it just keeps dragging on and on forever. My ex has not paid support for 11 months. Having not worked outside the home in 27 years and living in a rural area where the nearest city is 50 miles away, I am unable to find employment of any kind.
How do I find a GOOD attorney that will take over my case and get this divorce over and done with?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Family Law in California is mostly a local practice, meaning attorneys only handle cases in one or a few contiguous counties. So you need to specify what county the case is pending in. If your case is in Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, Marin or Santa Clara counties, I might be able to help you. If not, I suggest you look on the web for the county bar association for the county your case is in, and contact their lawyer referral service.
