Whether or not your ex can come after you for more money first depend on the judgment. If the judgment allows modifications, she can always come after you but your new spouse's income cannot be attributed to you. If there is child support involved, you have to disclose the new spouse's income, because it affects your taxes, but the income is not included in the funds avialable to determine the payment. As for past bills, her separate property is not reachable for your past debts, but community property is. If you want to protect her from significant past debts, you will need a good prenuptual agreement and a financial plan to segregate assets and income as much as possible. If you dot your I's and cross your T's, however, you can do a pretty good job of sheltering her from your past debt.
