Legal Question in Family Law in California

Divorce-Question About Where My Husband Lives

I am trying to file for divorce. I do not know where my husband lives now. Is there a different procedure if I don't know where he is?

you can obtain a court order to allow service by publication. Prior to getting that order you will have to make a search to obtain his current address. the cost of publication can be quite high. shop around for the cheapest price for this service.

In a general sense, the procedure is to perform a "due dilligance" search and then seek judicial permission to serve him by publishing notice int he newspaper. It may very well be that a private detective can locate him as well.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
