Legal Question in Family Law in California
DIY divorce if living out of state, can't find wife, no kids, no assets...?
Can you help me please?
What are the steps for Do It Yourself divorce--we've been ''married'' for 12 years, but have not lived together for the past four years. We were married in Los Angeles county, we have no kids, and we have no assets from what I know. Well, I do not have any assets, and if she has any, I do not want them. I've been unemployed for 8 years, just doing odd jobs --enough to make rent and food.
I don't know where my wife is, as we have lost touch over the past year. She is not listed in the phone book, and I have since moved out of state.
How do I file paperwork for a divorce in CA if I live out of state? Where do I file the paperwork? In Los Angeles county?
Do I really need an attorney or can I do this myself and download any forms from the county website? (remember I'm only working odd jobs)
Do I need to take a personal ad out in one or more newspapers to notify her, since I think she is still living in the L.A. area? How long is the ad supposed to run?
Must I show up for a court date if live in a different state?
Is there a book I can get at the library that would tell me this stuff too?
Thank you for your time.

If you are not residing in California, you can not file in California. I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer in the state in which you reside.
Good luck to you!
