Legal Question in Family Law in California

Donor insemination responsibility

If a woman with an impotent

husband wishes to be impregnated,

and chooses a donor to do so

(knowing that the donor would not

be part of the child's life), what is

sufficient to invalidate the donor's

paternal responsibility to the child in

the eyes of the law? Please also note

if this issue would differ if the

insemination were in vitro, as

opposed to in womb.

Re: Donor insemination responsibility

A sperm donor is not liable for a child born if the child is the result of artificial insemination. If the insemination is the result of sexual relations you would be liable for child support.
