Legal Question in Family Law in California

education debts

I got divorced in December 2002;

my question relates to debts incurred during marriage; we both had student loans... mine ~$10,000 incurred during the marriage, and hers ~$25,000 incurred before the marriage; during the marriage, both of these were consolidated into one (federal consolidation program) and put under my name; am I responsible for repaying the whole amount now?

Re: education debts

What did your divorce decree say? Likely, if not joined, etc., etc., court would require you to pay your own and she to pay hers, however, now, if nothing in court final papers or divorce arrangement, likely yours. May want to discuss it again with the court or your attorney if have one.
